Sarl Bouneou and CMS: stone fabrication, a combination of passion, tradition and technology

“SARL Bouneou” is a family-run company located in Estigarde, a small French municipality in the Landes department, and was founded to meet the need for restoring buildings and other elements of French heritage, which then expanded to cover all stone fabrication technologies over the last 10 years.
Passion for their work is what binds Joël and Aurelien Bouneou, father and son, who combine several traditional techniques with modern equipment to offer their customers quality and excellence.
The company is mainly managed by Joël Bouneou. While he takes care of the workshop and finishing, his son Aurelien deals with the software programming and 3D modeling, and his wife Isabelle manages all the administration.
Their set of machines includes the Brembana g-rex, purchased to “perform very complex fabrication” explains Joël, and to “work about twenty or thirty hours independently”.
“This machine has opened many doors for us, given us many opportunities,” adds Aurelien, “it makes our daily work easier.”
The fabrication performed with the CMS machine includes some bas-reliefs, dog sculptures and two busts, first studied and programmed using special 3D software and then made with the brembana g-rex. The first bust is that of actor Tom Cruise. Aurelien says that fabrication alone, from the initial stone block to the finished product, took about 50 hours.
The user-friendliness of the software and small speed adjustments as the tool enters and exits allowed Aurelien to gain as much as ten hours of work on the second bust made, that of Sylvester Stallone. “Ten hours might not seem much”, explains Aurelien, “but for us, it's a really significant result. We manage to recover as much as 30 hours over three busts!” The machine is able to achieve a very high level of precision, the same work would take about three weeks if it were done by hand.
The collaboration between CMS and Bouneou is excellent: we understand each other very well, and for Aurelien, CMS “is always reactive in quickly finding solutions that allow us to resume fabrication as soon as possible”.
