Mahros

Mahros was founded in 1978 under the name of OMS (Officine Meccaniche Sammarinesi, or San Marino Mechanical Workshops). From the start it had strong ties with the SCM Group in matters related to production (OMS performed machining work for the Group) as well as to administration, in view of the fact that the partners running OMS were – besides the founder from San Marino, Mario Rossi also SCM partners.

In the early 1980s OMS was assigned the task of entering the market of industrial product handling. It decided therefore to acquire the Lima company, which operated in the Province of Varese, dealt with product handling and had completed several important 'custom-made' projects. In 1984 a decision was made to integrate OMS with the SCM Group, and the new Mahros brand was introduced at the Milan Fair (the new name was basically an abbreviation of Mario Rossi's full name, with an 'h' inserted in the middle to grant the brand a technological ring). Customers, especially the French, of the former Lima became the first to work with Mahros, buying a series of single-column loaders. Thanks to these early orders, Mahros grew stronger commercially and with the introduction of new designers developed a high-tech know-how, and thus quickly became one of the largest Italian manufacturers of product handling and automation systems for flexible production lines.

In 1985 the brand made its debut at the Hanover Fair. In the following years Mahros – with the collaboration of talented designers such as Gabriele Stacchini, the engineer Viller Venturi and Giovanni Gemmani – increased its production capacity of flexible and specific solutions for every product handling need. Specifically, Mahros produced excellent fast loaders used for the Celaschi squaring machines and the Stefani edgebanders. At present, Mahros components are being used in cells and cell systems that the SCM Group supplies as its most advanced Industry 4.0 and mass-customisation projects and solutions.
