Technologies, services and expertise: SCM’s vision up close at Xylexpo 2024

6 M06 2024

The latest edition of Xylexpo, held from 21 to 24 May at the Fiera Milano, proved a great success and gathered plenty of interest in SCM’s technological and digital innovations from the entire woodworking sector. The Italian group presented its latest models in a completely new and fully multimedia fashion. Still, above all, it illustrated a clear-cut vision that goes beyond the machine by offering clients a world of technologies, services and skills to accompany them throughout the entire life cycle of the machine and for the whole duration of their business projects.
Innovations that look carefully at the new needs regarding services, digital transformation, and sustainability are pillars of the new Transition 5.0.

Around the stand’s perimeter were nine corners complete with screens which clearly conveyed the extent of SCM’s range of solutions and complete processes for each specific production process: furniture and kitchens, windows and doors, flooring, construction, surface treatment, joinery and boats and caravans. All are integrated with CMS solutions, another of the group’s brands specialising in technologies for machining other materials like glass, marble, metal, plastic and composites.
Also on show at the stand were clients’ finished products to get a hands-on experience of the result achieved, from a quality and finishing point of view, thanks to the group’s machines and systems.
Focus has shifted away from the client’s product towards their needs in terms of support, control advice and productivity: the new WIN MES software was presented on this occasion to deal with the factory’s IT flow.
Lastly, at the heart of the stand, visitors to Xylexpo have been able to explore SCM’s new, fully operational Digital Control Room which digitally interprets the group’s values: the relationship with the client (“you will never work alone”) via the proactive service enabled by the Maestro connect IoT system and sustainability. Environmental sustainability via new energy monitoring functions, sustainability of operations via predictive maintenance, and business sustainability are guaranteed by increased productivity and the Service Bundle packages. Lastly, but of no less importance, the concept of people sustainability which takes the form of sharing technical knowledge and continuous training.

On these topics, as is the case with the new industry trends for wood furnishing, important eye-witness accounts were given by clients and stakeholders interviewed in the SCM Arena, like Aldo Cingolani, president of Bertone Design, Katia Celli, CEO and shareholder of Fontemaggi, Andrea Antico, general manager of Isokit, Claudio Bertolotto, owner of Bertolotto Porte, Davide Benedetto, CEO of Nord Legnami Group, Marco Clozza, owner of D3Wood and Luigi Mettica, Director of the Artwood Academy’s Wood-furnishing training Branch.

There has been no shortage of live linkups with SCM’s Technology Centers in Italy to illustrate the new flexible industrial cells for beam saw, nesting, edgebanding and drilling, integrated with automatic magazines and articulated robots, just like the integrated solutions for sanding and painting to machine door panels, windows and doors and parquet.
On the subject of which, Xylexpo has also been an opportunity to inaugurate the new Scm-Superfici Technology Center in nearby Villasanta, in the heart of Brianza. 2,000 m2 of innovations not just for finishing but also for a wide range of other technologies belonging to the group to complete the processes for the production of furniture, doors and windows, construction and joinery work.
